Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 9 Stevens, 18-8, in 2026 Opener

Hoboken, N.J. – February 21, 2026 – The Springfield College men's lacrosse team fell to ninth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, 18-8, in the team's season opener on Saturday afternoon from the DeBaun Athletic Complex in New Jersey.

Stevens improved to 2-0, while Springfield starts the year 0-1.

Jake Degnan (Mahopac, N.Y.) powered Springfield's offense with a trio of goals, while Bryan Stensrud (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) contributed two goals and Brady Soldo (Shrewsbury, Mass.)Dominic Savastano (South Salem, N.Y.) and Owen Dawson (South Hadley, Mass.) all notched one goal apiece. Ryan Berkel (Sudbury, Mass.) handed out a game-high four assists as well. Savastano scooped up a team-best six ground balls and won 11 faceoffs. Jack Tenaglia led all scorers with six goals for the homestanding Ducks.

After Stevens tallied the first two goals of the game, Degnan put Springfield on the board with a strike from Savastano early in the opening quarter. Savastano would add an unassisted strike, but Stevens held a 4-2 edge after one.

Stensrud buried a shot off a pass from Berkel for the game's first goal of the second to pull Springfield within one, but Stevens tallied the final four goals of the half to take an 8-3 lead into the break.

Berkel connected with Degnan before Dawson posted an unassisted tally to open scoring in the third making it just a three goal differential at 8-5, but a 3-0 run by Stevens made it 11-5 late in the third. Degnan finished the scoring in the period with a strike from Berkel as the score stood at 11-6 through 45 minutes.

Stevens went on to outscore Springfield, 7-2, in the fourth en route to the 18-7 final from New Jersey on Saturday.

Springfield went 22-for-27 on clearing attempts, but Stevens held the differential in shots (59-29), ground balls (45-27), faceoffs (15-12) and caused turnovers (10-3).

Springfield returns to Alden Street for its home opener on Thursday against Union College (NY) at 4:00 pm.
