Springfield, Mass. – February 21, 2026 – Emerson College outscored Springfield College 16-3 over the final five minutes of the game as the Pride fell 67-61 to the Lions in the regular season finale for both programs this afternoon in Boston.
Emerson improved to 14-11 overall and to 5-6 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield ended the regular season 15-10 overall and 6-5 in the league standings. Both teams have earned spots in next weekend's conference tournament with Springfield traveling to MIT and Emerson traveling to Smith for the quarterfinal round on Wednesday.
Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) led all scorers in the game with 20 points, while
Carrie Hess (Shrewsbury, Mass.) notched 14 points and five rebounds and
Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Pride. Today's game marked the third time Finney has totaled 20 or more points for Springfield. Meanwhile, Bri Frongillo guided Emerson to the win with 16 points, while Jessie Silk notched a 13 point, 12 rebound double-double for the homestanding Lions on Saturday.
Emerson raced out to an 11-2 lead following a trey by Lindsay Gould midway through the first. Springfield responded as a layup by Lucas led the Pride to scoring ten of the final 15 points of the stanza, but ultimately the Lions led 16-12 after ten minutes of play.
Finney began the second with a three off her own steal to pull Springfield within one before a trey by Lucas knotted the score at 18. A jumper by Hess and layup by
Ava Mamone (Troy, N.Y.) was all the offense the Pride would get over the next six minutes of play as Emerson forged ahead 30-22. Finney broke the run by the Lions and Springfield scored seven of the quarter's final 12 points, but trailed 35-29 at the break.
Springfield opened the third by scoring 11 of the first 15 points of the quarter to take its first lead of the game at 40-39 following a layup by Finney. Emerson, however, once again answered with a string of six straight points and went ahead by a 47-41 margin. Two straight layups by Finney to end the third pulled Springfield within two, 47-45, heading to the fourth.
A layup by Finney and a pair of free throws gave Springfield an early two point edge in the fourth before layups by
Ruth Boles (Franklin, Mass.) and
Madison Lopez (Bronx, N.Y.) as well as an and-one play by Finney gave Springfield its largest of the game at seven points, 58-51 with five minutes left on the clock. Silk knocked down a shot from behind the arc and Emerson went on to score 14 straight points – 12 of which came on consecutive buckets from long range – to regain the lead, 67-58. Hess hit a three of her own, but Frongillo sealed the game for Emerson with a pair of free throws to account for the 67-61 final in Boston.
