Springfield, Mass. – February 25, 2026 – The No. 1 ranked Springfield College men's volleyball team reverse swept No. 16 Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday night in Blake Arena.
Springfield, which is now 11-1 on the season and won its ninth straight against a ranked team, won tonight by scores of 23-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-19, 15-9 and played its second straight five set match. Rutgers-Newark dropped to 12-4 this year.
Nathan Goh (Germantown, Md.) led Springfield's offense with 14 kills and hit .542 on the night in addition to having eight digs, while
Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.) hit. 323 with 14 kills, six blocks and four digs.
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) added 12 kills,
Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.) and
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) combined for ten kills without an error. Mulvaney registered 44 assists and eight digs, while
Ricardo Ortiz (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) notched a match-best 17 digs.
Rutgers-Newark hit .333 in each of the first two sets and won by scores of 25-23 and 25-21 to put Springfield in its first two-set hole against a Division III team since February of last year.
The third set was back and forth as neither team held more than a two point edge all the way through. Levinson pushed the Pride ahead 19-17 and 20-19 before Rutgers-Newark came back to tie the score down the stretch at 21, 22, 23 and 24. Newark made a pair of errors giving Springfield a 24-23 edge before back-to-back kills by Levinson secured the third, 26-24. As a team, Springfield produced 15 kills and hit .423 in the third set alone.
Springfield led the fourth from start to finish as a pair of kills by Goh and a solo block from
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) made it 7-3 early. Rutgers-Newark was able to climb back within one at 17-16 following a kill from Alex Solodky. Kirchhoff blasted the ball through the middle igniting a string of five straight points for the Pride. After Kirchhoff's kills the Pride received four combined kills from Durivage and Levinson. An error by the visitors gave Springfield its 23rd point before Durivage and Cutter teamed up for back-to-back kills to win the fourth, 25-19, and to push the match to five.
Three errors by Rutgers-Newark gave Springfield an early 3-1 lead in the match before a kill from Levinson made it 4-2. Then back-to-back assisted blocks by Levinson and Kirchhoff started to pull Springfield away from Rutgers-Newark. The with the score at 8-5, Levinson teamed up with Cutter for back-to-back stuffs at the net before an error by the visitors made it 11-5. A Durivage kill made it 13-6 before Rutgers-Newark made it interesting with three straight points, but Goh and Durivage put the match away with kills to seal it 15-9.
Springfield as a team produced 62 kills on the night and hit .304. The Pride also held the edge in kills (62-47), aces (3-2), blocks (12-7), assists (54-44) and digs (47-46).
Springfield will travel to Vassar College on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
