Springfield, Mass. – February 6, 2026 – In a battle of two of the top three teams in the nation, the top-ranked Springfield College men's volleyball team swept third-ranked Stevens in the opening game of the 2026 Morgan Classic on Friday night in Blake Arena.
Springfield, which improved to 5-1 on the season and earned its third straight win over a ranked team, handed Stevens (8-1) its first loss of the year and won by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-20. Springfield will take on the winner of Drew and Hobart in tomorrow's championship match scheduled for 8:15 pm.
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) hit an impressive .545 with a match-best 13 kills to go along with five digs and an ace. In his return to the lineup,
Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.) registered 12 kills and ten digs, while
Nathan Goh (Germantown, Md.) recorded 11 kills and four digs. In the middle,
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) hit .583 with eight kills, while
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 42 assists and added seven digs. As a team, Springfield hit .303 and was dominant at the net totaling 16 blocks. Springfield also produced 46 kills and hit .303 compared to 33 and .136 for the Ducks.
Springfield got off to a slow start in the opening set as Stevens jumped out to a 10-5 edge following a pair of Pride errors. Trailing 14-10, a swing by Durivage ignited a 6-1 run that saw kills from Goh and Levinson, a block by Cutter and aces by Durivage and
Richard Eber Jr. (Hummelstown, Pa.) to take a 16-15 edge. The Pride maintained its slim edge until late in the set when three straight kills by Levinson, Durivage and Goh extended the Pride lead to four at 23-19. Stevens got two points back, by Durivage secured the first, 25-21, with two straight kills off the hands of Mulvaney.
Springfield's offense picked up in the second tallying a match-best 17 kills to go along with a .353 hitting percentage. Tied at 14, a block through the middle by Cutter and Mulvaney paired with swings by Goh, Levinson and Durivage pushed the Pride ahead by three at 19-16. Stevens pulled within one, but once again it was Levinson who came through with a pair of kills and Springfield knocked down a pair of blocks for set point. A service error by Stevens gave Springfield the second, 25-21, and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Much like the second, the first half of the set in the third was pretty even with the score tied at 11. A kill from Durivage sparked a 7-1 run – a spurt that also featured an ace by Cutter a kill from Levinson, a solo block by Eber Jr. and an assisted block by Levinson, Eber Jr. and Durivage as the Pride held a 19-12 advantage. Stevens cut its deficit to three at 19-16, but swings by Durivage, Goh and Cutter made it 23-17. Stevens once again put together a string of three straight points, but Cutter and Durivage terminated the match with back-to-back swings from Mulvaney.
