Softball Opens NEWMAC Play With a Sweep of Salve Regina

Springfield, Mass. - March 29, 2026 - The Springfield College softball team swept Salve Regina in its first doubleheader against a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent this season.

The Pride are 10-3 overall and begin at 2-0 in conference play while the Seahawks drop to 1-11, 0-2.

Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) went 4-for-7 over the two games with five RBI, two runs scored and a double while Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) was 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) went 3-for-6 with five runs scored, two RBI and two doubles while also getting a win in the circle. Ten different student-athletes notched more than one hit for Springfield.

Game 1: Springfield 11, Salve Regina 0 (5 Innings)

DeRosa shutout Salve Regina over five innings as she only allowed two hits, did not walk a single batter and struck out eight. Emilia Santiago (West Hartford, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with two RBI as Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) had a one hit and a run scored while dropping down two sacrifice bunts.

The Pride got it going early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first as Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.) hit a double that drove in DeRosa before a single from Katsetos brought in Hunter.

In the bottom of the second, Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.) slapped a single up the middle to bring in Ball before a double from DeRosa drove in Falotico. After a double from Katsetos, Eckles and DeRosa scored while Hunter was later able to score on a fielding error from the Seahawks to take a 7-0 lead. Springfield continued to dominate, driving in four more runs in the third for the eventual 11-0 win in five innings.

Game 2: Springfield 8, Salve Regina 2

Rachel Powers (Tigard, Ore.), Sammy Swords (Plano, Texas) and Aurora Levesque (Weston, Conn.) each tallied had two hits apiece as Levesque tallied a run scored and an RBI. Julia Rimshnick (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the win in the circle, pitching 7.0 innings with three strikeouts.

Springfield picked up where they left off, as Hunter and Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) hit back-to-back doubles allowing both leadoff DeRosa and Hunter to score to take a 2-0 lead before tacking another one on in the bottom of the second when Ball scored on a ground out to second base.

The Seahawks cut the lead as a single down the line and a sacrifice fly put Salve Regina within one, 3-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, Levesque hit a double to center field for Katsetos to score before Swords followed that up with a double to right field which allowed Levesque to score. DeRosa stole home in the sixth before Pecchia homered to center field which also brought in Powers to take the game 8-2.

The Pride head to Western New England on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
