Boston, Mass. – April 1, 2026 – The top-ranked Springfield College men's volleyball team played its final of 12 regular season matches against ranked opponents on Wednesday night and came away with a five set victory on the road at No. 13 Wentworth. Springfield won by set scores of 3-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 15-11 to earn its 20th win of the 2026 campaign.
Springfield, which improved to 20-3 on the season, has now recorded 20 or more wins under head coach
Charlie Sullivan for the 15th time in his career. Not only that, but Sullivan now has 563 career wins tying him with Craig Kolek of Rivier University (1997-2024) for second most in Division III history. Sullivan ranks seventh across all Divisions for wins and is only now behind Patrick Dorywalski of Stevens Institute of Technology (1989-2020) on the all-time Division III wins list.
Springfield not only entered the match first in the AVCA Division III Coaches Poll, but first in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings used to select teams to the national championship tournament. Wentworth, meanwhile, ranked 13th in the AVCA poll and 16th in the NPI dropped its record to 17-8.
As a team, Springfield hit .361 with 60 kills in the five set affair this evening and also produced seven blocks, 57 assists, 27 digs and three aces against the Leopards.
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) played his best match of the season with 18 kills, hitting .429 on the night to power the Pride offense.
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) hit .556 and
Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) hit .348 and both tallied 11 kills, while
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) recorded 52 assists, six digs and a block. Wentworth was guided by Alem Dubcak, who notched a match-best 21 kills for the hosts in the five setter.
The two sides combined to hit .551 in the first set with neither team making a hitting error until the score read 14-13 in favor of Springfield following a block by Cutter and Mulvaney. Wentworth trailed 17-15, but Eli Turner ignited a 7-2 run for the hosts to forge ahead by a 22-19 score. The Leopards had set point following a swing by Dubcak, but Springfield fended off a pair of points after a kill from
Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.) and a block by Levinson and
Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.). Turner ultimately terminated the first for Wentworth with a kill to win it 25-23.
Springfield went on to produce a match-high 14 kills and hit .423 in the second and held Wentworth to just a .174 hitting percentage to tie the match at one. A kill from Levinson and a block by Levinson and Kirchhoff put the Pride in front 7-5 and Springfield was able to maintain the edge the rest of the way. Kills from Durivage, Levinson, DesLauriers and Cutter extended Springfield's lead to five at 21-16 before back-to-back errors by Wentworth made it 23-17. A pair of swings through the middle by Kirchhoff secured the second for the Pride, 25-19.
The two teams switched roles in the third as Wentworth hit .476 with 13 kills in the third, while Springfield hit just .115 with ten kills as the hosts went on to take a 2-1 lead in the match. An ace by Cutter and a swing by Durivage tied the score at 16, but Wentworth went on a brief 5-1 spurt to go ahead 21-17. Springfield was able to pull back within three after two kills from Cutter, but a Pride error and an ace by Dubcak put Wentworth ahead 2-1 after three sets.
Wentworth appeared to be in control late in the third as the hosts held an 18-16 edge following a kill from Conner Foxwell, but two Wentworth errors and a setter dump by Mulvaney put Springfield back ahead 19-18. With the score even at 20, Durivage gave Springfield the lead for good before back-to-back kills from DesLauriers won the fourth for the Pride, 25-22, to force a fifth.
Springfield hit .529 with ten kills in the final set to secure the win. The two sides traded points until it was nine all. DesLauriers, Durivage and Cutter gave Springfield a 12-10 lead before Nicolai Bell pulled Wentworth back within one.
AJ Seveland (Jenkintown, Pa.) put Springfield within two before Durivage gave Springfield match point at 14-11. Dubcak went up for a swing to keep the match alive for Wentworth, but it was blocked down by Durivage and Kirchhoff securing the five set win for the Pride.
Springfield has now won four of its 20 matches in five sets this year and is 4-2 going the distance this season.
Springfield will travel to Hobart on Saturday for its final regular season match against a Division III opponent as first serve is set for 1:00 pm in New York.
