Worcester, Mass. – April 3, 2026 – Behind a pair of pitching gems
by Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.)and
Julia Rimshnick (Staten Island, N.Y.), the Springfield College softball team earned two New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) wins on the road at Clark University on Friday afternoon.
Springfield won the opener 4-1 and the nightcap 5-1 to improve its record to 12-4 overall and to 4-0 in NEWMAC play. Clark dropped to 10-9, 0-4.
In the doubleheader, DeRosa registered 19 strikeouts – the most in a Division III softball game this year – and third most in a seven-inning game in Division III softball history. In fact, DeRosa is the first in the NEWMAC to record 19 strikeouts in one game since Moira O'Reilly completed the feat during the 2023 campaign twice.
At the plate,
Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) went 5-for-8 with an RBI,
Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) went 3-for-6 with two RBI and DeRosa went 3-for-7 with two RBI. The Pride also went a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen bases. Springfield also combined for 22 hits in 14 innings of action and the staff of DeRosa and Rimshnick struck out 22 batters, while surrendering just two runs and 11 hits.
Game One: Springfield 4, Clark 1
In the opener, Springfield struck for three runs. With DeRosa on third and
Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.)on first,
Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) put the Pride up 1-0 with a single up the middle before Katsetos plated Hunter for the 2-0 lead. Pecchia then scored Springfield's third run of the frame on an RBI ground out by
Madison King (Burlington, Mass.).
After allowing a leadoff single to Clark in the first, DeRosa struck out ten straight batters – a streak that ran into the fourth. The Pride plated one in the sixth as DeRosa helped her own cause with an RBI single to center that plated
Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.) for the 4-0 lead.
Clark got one back in the bottom half of the sixth, but DeRosa returned to the circle and struck out the side in order to secure the 4-1 win for the Pride.
Game Two: Springfield 5, Clark 1
After three scoreless innings to begin the nightcap, Springfield scored all five of its runs in the fourth. All six runs between the two sides were all tallied in that one inning.
Clark starter Brooke Buzzeo quickly got the first two outs of the fourth, but a single to center by Katsetos kickstarted the Springfield offense. Springfield loaded the bases following singles by Katsetos and
Madi Testo (Keene, N.H.) and a walk by
Sammy Swords (Plano, Texas). Katsetos then scored the game's first run on a wild pitch before Ball plated Swords and Testo on a double down the left field line.
Two batters later, DeRosa and
Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) roped back-to-back RBI singles to push Springfield ahead 5-0. Clark scored its lone run on an RBI groundout by Abigail Venis.
Rimshnick returned to the circle setting the Cougars down 1-2-3 in the fifth and only surrendered a single in the sixth and seventh before getting back-to-back fly outs to complete the sweep.
Springfield will return to Alden Street to face Wellesley in a NEWMAC doubleheader tomorrow at noon.
