Smith Defeats Women's Volleyball

Springfield, Mass. — September 29, 2026 — The Springfield College women's volleyball team fell to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Smith on Tuesday night in Blake Arena, 3-1, by set scores of 25-27, 21-25, 25-20, 29-31.

The Bears improve to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference while the Pride drop to 10-3, 2-1.

Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) continued to lead the Pride as she totaled 15 kills while hitting .343 to go along with five blocks and Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.) notched a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) also registered a double-double with 39 assists, 16 digs and two service aces as Gabbie Weissgarber (Colorado Springs, Colo.) totaled nine blocks.

The first set saw a lot of back-and-forth from both squads as each held a lead at multiple points during the set. Springfield went on a run powered by three straight attack errors from Smith to take a five-point lead at 21-16. The Bears worked their way back and went on to outscore the Pride 11-4 as back-to-back kills from Alison Chapin sealed the 27-25 win.

With the second set tied at 10, Smith would then go on a 7-0 run powered by three service aces from Hanna Suzuki and multiple errors from the Pride to quickly take a 17-10 lead. Springfield looked to work back into the set, another kill from Chapin would put an end to the threat, 25-21.

The Pride took an early lead as Springfield went on to score five unanswered points, highlighted by a block and service ace from Maliha Daubon (Bloomfield, Conn.), to take the lead, 8-2. Springfield continued to add to the lead and a block from Daubon and Weissgarber allowed the Pride to win the set and force a fourth set.

Smith jumped out to another early lead and continued to build, but Springfield aimed to work back and took a 20-19 lead after an attack error from the Bears capped a 4-0 run. Both teams continued to exchange points as someone was looking to seal the win and the Bears were able to do it after a kill from Mia Etheridge, 31-29.

Springfield will host conference opponent Emerson on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
