Wellesley, Mass. - September 4, 2026 - Springfield men's cross country opened up the 2026 season at the Wellesley Invitational, totaling 47 points as a team.
Elijah Quinn (Holyoke, Mass.) led the Pride, finishing in fifth place with a time of 16:26.8 in the 5000m race.
Ty Sanges (Gloversville, N.Y.) followed in 10th in 16:44.5, with
Gabe Schaeffer (Selinsgrove, Pa.) behind in 11th in 16:50.7.
Carmelo Berdecia (Barrington, N.H.) and
Corey Christensen (Rocky Hill, Conn.) closed out the Springfield scorers, finishing in 12th and 14th with times of 16:58.0 and 17:28.3 respectively.
First-years
Ryal Ortoleva (Old Lyme, Conn.) and
Josh Martin (Vernon, Conn.) were the next to cross, with Ortoleva finishing in 16th in 17:29.3 and Martin in 18th in 17:53.6.
Ayden Collura (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was next in 19th in 17:59.0, followed by
Austyn Neidel (Glastonbury, Conn.) in 20th at 18:40.8.
Zachary Chasen (Cheshire, Conn.) made it three straight finishes for Springfield, placing 21st in 18:53.9.
Ryan Mateus (Ludlow, Mass.) finished a time of 19:18.4, followed by
Matthias Cambi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in 19:55.4.
Liam Treuel (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and
Alan Redford (Wallingford, Conn.) rounded out the pack in, with respective times of 20:22.0 and 22:02.6.
The Pride will take next weekend off before traveling to Manchester, Conn. for the Trinity Invitational on Saturday, September 12.
