Springfield, Mass. – September 12, 2009 – The Springfield College women’s tennis team battled against conference powerhouse MIT on Saturday before falling, 7-2, at Appleton Courts.The match marked the first under new head coach, Tim Losee.
Springfield had two terrific showings from a pair of freshmen with Sam Carney leading the way. In her first collegiate match, Carney won at No. 4 singles by the scores of 6-0, 6-1. Classmate Erin Woodbury also had success at No. 5 singles as she won 6-3, 6-2. Vanessa Senecal nearly pulled off the Pride’s third win at No. 6 singles after winning the first set 6-4, but Senecal eventually lost the second set and the tiebreaker.
