Northampton, Mass. – April 2, 2011 – Amy Shaw and Vanessa Senecal picked up a win at No. 1 doubles and were both victorious in their singles matches, however the Springfield College women’s tennis team dropped a 5-3 decision at Smith on Saturday.
Smith used two wins at doubles to jump start the match against the Pride. Eunice Zhao and Julia Signell beat Kristi Maltz and Sarah Morgan 8-1 at No. 3, and Meghan Smith and Nawal Mays defeated Siana Green and Erin Woodbury 8-2 at No. 2.ÂÂ
Shaw and Senecal took their doubles match over Maggie Steiner and Alllyson Hawkins, 8-5.
In the singles competition, Shaw cruised to a win at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Steiner. At No. 3 singles, Senecal was victorious, 6-3, 6-2.
Rachal Canfora earned one of Smith’s three singles wins with a battling 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 decision at No. 4 over Green. Grace McKay-Corkum dropped the first set to Amy Buttarazzi, but stormed back to win the final two sets and the match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Hawkins also went three sets, going back and forth with Woodbury to take a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 decision.ÂÂ
