Springfield, Mass. – September 13, 2012 – Nina Vital scored twice and added an assist to lead the Springfield College women’s soccer team to a 4-0 win against cross-town rival Western New England on Thursday afternoon.
The win boosts the Pride’s record to 3-1 this season, while the Golden Bears fall to 3-3-1.
Springfield got on the scoreboard in the 26th minute when Vital scored the eventual game-winner. The junior foward was able to steal the ball in her offensive-third of the field, dribbled past two defenders and tucked a shot just inside the left post.
The Pride got another goal at 36:41 from Lauren Muser and received second-half markers by Vital and Vicky DiNatale.
While corner kicks were even at 5-5, Springfield outshot Western New England 22-9 in the game, including 9-2 on goal.
Erin Greenstein needed to make just two saves to earn her second shutout victory of the season. Briana Kubic made four saves until Casey Magee made her first appearance of the season in goal in the 67th minute.
Springfield will open up New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday when it travels to take on Clark at 1:00 pm.
