Box Score
Worcester, Mass. – September 15, 2012 – Nicole Fowler scored the game’s only goal three minutes into the second overtime period to lift the Springfield College women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Clark University on Saturday afternoon in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Fowler took a pass from Kelly Ziogas and slid a shot past Cougar netminder Gabby Paolini at exactly 103:00 to give ranked Springfield their second consecutive victory to improve to 4-1 on the season. Clark, meanwhile, sees its record dip to 2-3-1 overall. The Pride controlled much of the game, holding a 25-3 edge in shots, including a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Springfield had a few opportunities to score in regulation but the combination of some unfortunate luck and the stellar play of Paolini in net kept them off the board.
Freshman Jessica Miller had an excellent chance on a blast from just outside the box, but her attempt clanged off the crossbar in the 56th minute.
Then in a three minute span late in the second half, both Breena Salwocki and Fowler hit the back post.
Erin Greenstein needed to make just one save to post her third career shutout of the Cougars. Paolini, meanwhile, turned back a career-best nine one game after stopping eight in her first career shutout.
Clark will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they visit Keene State, while the Pride begins a three-game homestand beginning with Amherst on Wednesday as well.
