Springfield, Mass – October 8, 2013 - The duo of Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) won their fourth-straight doubles match on Tuesday to lead the Springfield College women’s tennis team.
The Pride had its five-match win streak snapped, falling to visiting Mount Holyoke, 8-1. Springfield falls to 6-4 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC while Mount Holyoke improves to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
London and Foster defeated Mount Holyoke’s AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa.) and Eman Malik (Karachi, Pakistan) by a score of 9-7 for Springfield’s only win of the day.
Mount Holyoke’s Maya Sayarath (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) won their doubles match, 9-7 and Whitney Schott (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Sarah Anischik (Tolland, Conn.) won 8-3 over Springfield.
The Lyons swept all six singles matches. Konkel battled to three sets to come away with a 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 win. Sayarath also went three sets for the win (4-6, 6-0, 10-4). Holloschutz earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory while Anischik won with scores of 6-0, 6-1. Malik (6-0, 6-1) and Schott (6-1, 6-0) tallied wins to complete the singles sweep.
Springfield will host NEWMAC rival Wellesley on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Mount Holyoke hosts Babson in a conference match up on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
