Springfield, Mass. – September 24, 2013 – The Springfield College women’s tennis team captured its third-consecutive win on Tuesday afternoon after besting Clark University, 7-2, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) showdown on Appleton Courts.
The win boosts the Pride’s record to 4-3, 2-3 in league play while the Cougars fall to 2-6, 0-2.
Springfield opened up the afternoon with two victories in doubles action. At No. 2 doubles, Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) picked up an 8-1 win, while Sydney Streimer (Mystic, Conn.) and Alanna Grady (Springfield, Mass.) cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 3.
The Pride then sealed the win with five of the six singles decisions. Streimer posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2, followed by a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 by Melanie Thulin (Manchester Center, Vt.).
Springfield’s Ariana Shemms (Goshen, Conn.) took a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 4, Foster cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5., and Grady added a 6-1, 6-2 victroy at No. 6 to conclude the scoring.
Springfield will look to continue its momentum next Tuesday in another conference match at Smith.
