Box Score 2 Springfield, Mass. - October 11, 2014 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in the second day of the Tom Hay Invitational on Saturday in Blake Arena. The Pride opened the day with a sweep of Vassar before falling in straight sets to Williams.
Junior middle Elise Brogan (Andover, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament Team, while Meghan Kinee (Williamstown, N.J.) earned Most Valuable Player honors.

In a rematch of last year's NCAA Regional Semifinals, the Springfield College women's volleyball team was defeated by Williams College in straight sets on Saturday afternoon. The Ephs prevailed 25-16, 25-23, 25-18.
Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) totaled six blocks and five kills, while teammate Kelsey McGayhey (Shelter Island, N.Y.) totaled six kills and three blocks. Whitney Miller (Cuba, N.Y.) was credited with 16 assists and six digs. Springfield was held to a .094 hitting percentage for the match.
Tori Jasuta led all players with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Ryan Farley directed the Ephs offense with 34 assists as the squad hit .250. Claire Miller, Raea Rasmussen, and Catherine Egan each totaled seven kills for the visitors.
With the score even at five in the first set, Williams took over with a 9-2 run after a Rasmussen kill. Springfield had no answer for Williams offensive attack, as the visitors pounded out 17 kills at a .483 clip in the frame. Springfield got as close as 20-15 on a Rebecca Higgins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) kill, but the Ephs eventually took the set, 25-16.
The secong game features 11 ties as the teams went back and forth throughout. Williams owned a 19-15 advantage, but the Pride benefited from four-straight Eph attack errors to even things up. Holt and McGayhey combined for a critical block to tie the match at 23 before Jasuta chipped a kill off the Springfield block for set point. Egan than sealed the victory as her kill found the middle of the court for the 25-23 win. Williams totaled an incredible 20 kills in the game.
Springfield went down early again in the third, trailing 9-4 following a Jasuta kill. The hosts battled back with a three unaswered points, capped off by another Holt and McGayhey block, only to have Williams score 12 of the next 17 points to extend their lead to 21-12. Williams completed the sweep after a Springfield attack error ended the match.

Elise Brogan (Andover, Mass.) had a terrific match in the middle, tallying nine kills at a .571 clip to go along with a match-high five blocks. Rebecca Higgins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) notched six kills and nine digs, and Hannah Andres (West Barnstable, Mass.) posted six digs, five kills, and four aces. Marnae Mawdsley (Bolton, Conn.) was credited with 27 assists as the Pride hit .361 in the contest.
Vassar hit -.037 for the match, despite the efforts of Taylor Mosley, who tallied nine kills for the visitors. Chloe Hallum delivered a match-high 10 digs, and Marie Pitre chipped in five kills and four digs.
After a block by Clara Cardillo and Mosley brought Vassar within 7-5 in the first, Springfield poured on an 11-3 spurt, with a Kinee ace putting the Pride in control, 18-8. Behind the play of Brogan, who notched three blocks in the game, Springfield cruised to a 25-16 win.
Springfield benefited from three early aces by Andres to snag an 8-2 lead to begin the second set. The Pride hit .471 in the stanza and was never threatened as it breezed to a 25-11 game. Brogan notched four kills to pace the hosts in the frame.
Higgins heated up in the third, registering four kills for Springfield. The Pride once again used a fast start and never looked back, turning a 10-3 lead into an eventual 25-14 victory. Springfield outhit the visitors, .364 to -.143 in the third set.
