Women's Soccer Draws With Wellesley in NEWMAC Finale

Box Score

Wellesley, Mass. - November 1, 2014 - Junior midfielder Brooke Hattinger (Weymouth, Mass.) notched her seventh goal of the season with 9:24 remaining in the opening half as the Springfield College women's soccer team would eventually draw with Wellelsey, 1-1, on Saturday afternoon.

With the draw, Springfield, who was ranked No. 7 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) regional rankings, remains unbeaten in its last nine games and finishes the regular season with a 10-3-4 overall record and 6-1-3 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), while Wellesley finishes with an overall record of 8-7-3 and 2-5-3 in conference play.

Senior goalkeeper Lucy Gillett (Rockville Center, N.Y.) ended the contest with three saves, while her counterparts, Claire Cerda (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, N.Y.) combined for six saves for the Blue. Springfield held a 12-7 advantage in shots while Wellesley had five corner kicks to the Pride's four.

After Summer Hanula (La Canada-Flintridge, Calif.) scored in the 26th minute off an assist from Darlene Dang (Daville, Calif.), Hattinger capitalized on a free-kick from 30-yards out that skimmed off the bottom of the crossbar and into the back of the net to even the game at one goal apiece. Hattinger's goal marked the fifth direct free-kick goal of the 2014 season.

The Pride will attempt to defend its NEWMAC title from just one season ago, as it will enter the tournament and host Coast Guard in a quarterfinal contest on Tuesday evening. Springfield defeated the Bears earlier this season by a margin of 4-1 on Sept. 20
