Springfield, Mass. – September 14, 2014 – The Springfield College women's tennis team continued to battle with some of the top competition in the region but fell by a 9-0 decision to MIT on Sunday afternoon.
The Pride drop to 0-3 on the season, after its second match in as many days, as it has competed solely against New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponents thus far.
Junior Melanie Thulin (Manchester Center, Vt.) put pressure on MIT's No. 3 singles, but was defeated 6-0, 6-2. Thulin and Ariana Shemms (Goshen, Conn.) battled in the No. 2 doubles slot, but fell short (8-1).
Another one of the Pride's top performers was Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) who was defeated in the No. 2 singles competition by the Engineer's Wendi Kong (6-1, 6-1).
Springfield will play again on Thursday afternoon when it takes on cross town rival Western New England.
