Box Score Boston, Mass. - February 7, 2015 - A late 9-0 run in the second half for the Springfield College women's basketball team aided the Pride to a 61-50 victory over the Emerson Lions on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Pride improve to 16-6 on the season and 11-2 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. With the loss, Emerson falls to 11-10 on the year, and 5-7 in league action.
Springfield was 20-for-61 (32.8%) on the day, while the Lions only shot 18-for-58 (31.0%) from the field in the loss. Senior forward Jaimie Bickelhaupt (Brookfield, Conn.) posted her 12th double-double of the season and second in as many contests in the victory, registering 14 points and 13 rebounds, while junior guard Heather Lewis (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) tallied 14 points as well and five rebounds in the victory. Senior point guard, Andrea Moschetta (Harrison, N.Y.) finished the game with a team-high four steals and three assists, while also pulling down five rebounds and scoring three points.
For the Lions, Kristin Brice (Indiana, Pa.) posted a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds.
The Pride jumped out to an early 9-3 lead after a lay-up from Lewis, but Emerson quickly got back into the game scoring five unanswered points to bring the Lions to within a pair.
Emerson took its first lead late in the first half when Elizabeth Horan (Ashland, Mass.) converted on a jumper to put the Lions up 16-14 at the 3:56 mark, but a three-pointer from Lexi Windwer (Milton, Mass.) followed by a lay-up from Moschetta gave the Pride a 19-16 lead at the half.
After a pair of free-throws from Bickelhaupt gave the Pride a five-point lead with 14:37 remaining, Sierra Ducey (Poway, Calif.) cut the Lions deficit back to three. On the next two possessions, Bickelhaupt and Lewis converted back-to-back lay-ups to bring Springfield's lead back to seven.
Midway through the second half, Brice brought the Lions to within four with a lay-up after a steal from Ducey, but Bickelhaupt continued to find the basket as she canned a three-pointer with 9:12 remaining to help the Pride regain a seven-point advantage.
A Windwer three-pointer with 5:49 ballooned the Pride's lead to 10 points, before Bickelhaupt and Lewis drained buckets on Springfield's next two trips down the floor to put the visitors up 14 with under five minutes to go.
Springfield cashed in on its free-throw opportunities down the stretch, escaping Emerson with the victory.
Up next, the Pride will return to Blake Arena to take on Babson in a critical NEWMAC matchup. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
