Boston, Mass. - September 19, 2015 - The Springfield College women's tennis team defeated Emerson College, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Farwell Courts on the campus of Babson College. With the win, head coach Chad Stoloff registers his first-career win as the first full-time men's and women's tennis head coach in school history.
Springfield now holds a 1-3 record, and identical 1-3 record in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), while the Lions fall to 0-3 on the year.
In the No. 1 singles slot, Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) defeated Jamie CoConis and Tiziana Vazquez, 8-4, before Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) defeated Jennie Yates and Gilesa Thomas, 8-0, in the No. 2 doubles.
In the No. 1 singles, London defeated CoConis, 6-2, 6-3, before Parrish blanked Vazquez, 3-0 in the first set of the No. 2 singles match. In the No. 3 singles slot, Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) blanked Thomas, 6-0, 6-0, before Litchfield defeated Yates in the No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Wrapping up at No. 5 singles, Ariana Shemms (Goshen, Conn.) defeated Lalin Tasa 6-0, 6-1.
