Women's Tennis Downs Emerson, 7-2, For First NEWMAC Win

Springfield, Mass. - September 17, 2016 - The Springfield College women's tennis team earned its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory of the season with a 7-2 triumph over Emerson College on Saturday.

Springfield has now won its last two matches to improve to 2-3, 1-3 in league play.

The Pride took two points in doubles play with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.  Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) and Nicole Piazza (Portland, Conn.) eased their way to an 8-0 win at No. 2, while Rebecca Link (Norwalk, Conn.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) earned a 8-1 win at No. 3.

Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) delivered a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles to lead Springfield's singles play, while Litchfield took a 6-4, 6-3 win of her own at No. 3.  Both Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) at Link cruised to 6-1, 6-0 victories at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) continued her solid play at the No. 5 spot with a 6-0, 6-4 vitroy.

The Pride will continue NEWMAC play this upcoming Tuesday with an important conference match at Clark beginning at 4:00 pm.
