Women's Soccer Falls to No. 13 MIT, 4-0

Cambridge, Mass. - October 21, 2017 - The Springfield College women's soccer team was defeated by nationally-ranked MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Steinbrenner Stadium. With the loss, the Pride is now 12-4 on the year and 5-3 in league play. The win lifts MIT to an impressive 16-1-0 overall record and an unblemished 8-0-0 against conference opponents.

In net for the Pride, Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) registered eight saves in the setback, while her counterpart, Lily Mueller (Lakeville, Minn.) notched three saves in the victory. MIT held a 17-8 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play, while the Engineers were awarded five corner kicks to the Pride's three.

MIT opened up the scoring in the 19th minute when Olivia Struckman (Scottsdale, Ariz.) tucked a feed from Emily Berzolla (Riverside, Conn.) past Boucher to give the hosts a 1-0 lead, before the senior forward notched her second of the game 1:26 into the second half on assists from Maya Nielan (Danville, Calif.) and Shannon Miller (Pittsford, N.Y.). Miller found the back of the net herself in the 75th minute as she was set up by Claire O'Callaghan (Sherborn, Mass.), before the Engineers closed out the scoring on a goal in the 87th minute on a goal from Amy Apostol (Los Gatos, Calif.).

Up next, Springfield College will return to the pitch on Tuesday, September 24 when the Pride will travel to Wheaton in Norton, Mass. for a 4 p.m. tilt with the Lyons.
