Newton, Mass. - September 16, 2017 - The Springfield College football team erupted for 66 points as it eased its way to a 66-20 non-conference victory over Mount Ida on Saturday afternoon. The Pride improved to 3-0 on the season, marking the second time in the last five seasons that the Pride has won its first three outings.  

Springfield, which entered the game receiving votes in the latest D3football.com National Poll, totaled all its offense on the ground in the game and ran for 469 yards en route to nine rushing touchdowns on Alumni Field.  

Fresh of a week in which he earned awards at the conference, regional, and national levels, Jordan Wilcox (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) ran for 107 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Pride rushing attack.  Sophomore Hunter Belzo (Middletown, Conn.) needed just 10 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns, while senior quarterback Jake Eglintine (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) rushed 12 times for 71 yards and two scores.  First-year David Wells (Shelton, Conn.) broke free for a 40-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, and junior Joshua Thomas (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) got into the scorebook with a 53-yard rush to cap the game's scoring with just seconds left.

Mount Ida senior linebacker Josh David had 10 tackles to lead all players, but Springfield was ahead 21-0 by the end of the first quarter before Marcus Mcbean scored on a 17 yard run less than a minute into the second period.

Belzo, Eglintine twice, and Wilcox all found paydirt twice before the break, and Springfield was up 42-7 behind 246 yards rushing as the teams went to the locker rooms.

Christian Humulock (Narragansett, R.I.) was a perfect nine for nine on extra points, and also converted a 33 yard field goal for the Pride.  Defensively, Joel Sodeinde (Dartmouth, Mass.) led the Pride with seven tackles, including three for loss, while Dominic Traversa (Pittsfield, Mass.) made five stops and had one of Springfield's three interceptions.

Freshman De'Andre Goldson-Fisher  was one of the bright spots for Mount Ida, rushing for 74 yards on just seven carries, including a touchdown in the fourth quarter and Mcbean ran for two touchdowns on 76 yards.

Springfield will play its first-ever New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game next Saturday when it hosts WPI at 2:30 pm.
