Providence, R.I. - January 20, 2018 - Behind a dominant performance from freshman Ali Rushlow (Worcester, Mass.), the Springfield College women's gymnastics team defeated Rhode Island College, 186.200-177.625 on Saturday afternoon in Providence.
Rushlow won the all-around competition with a score of 37.750, finished first on the balance beam with a mark of 9.500, and tied for the top spot on vault (9.600) and floor exercise (9.575) in the victory. Following Rushlow in the all-around competition was Jess Clemens (South Setauket, N.Y.), as the junior produced a 37.475, including a winning score of 9.550 on the uneven bars.
Starting on vault, Rushlow and Taylor Jackson (Ocean, N.J.) both scored 9.600 to tie for first, as they were closely followed by Tali Twomey (Cotuit, Mass.), who notched a 9.475, and Madi Bowen (Sunderland, Mass.), who scored a 9.425. Next, on the bars, Clemens' score of 9.550 was the best of the meet, while Lena Morant (Gambrills, Md.) tallied a 9.475, good for second in the event.
On the balance beam, Rushlow earned the title as she scored a 9.500, as she was followed by Taylor Campagnone (Johnston, R.I.), who registered a score of 9.200 competing in her home state. Lastly, on floor, Rushlow and Bowen both came away with marks of 9.575, as they were followed by Clemens (9.500) and Campagnone (9.350).
Next up, Springfield College will host its first meet of the 2018 season on Saturday, January 27 at 2 p.m. in Blake Arena. Competing alongside the Pride will be Brockport, Brown and Southern Connecticut.
