Springfield, Mass. - March 27, 2018 - The Springfield College women's tennis team put together a great overall outing to earn a 9-0 victory over Smith in its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener at Appleton Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

It marks the first time since 2012 that Springfield has bested the Pioneers by a 9-0 margin.  The Pride has now strung together four-straight wins to improve to 6-2 on the season.

The Pride got off to a wonderful start in doubles play, with the No. 2 team Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Addie Kendall (Lakeville, Mass.) leading the way with an 8-2 win.  Both the No. 3 team of Rachel Litchfield (Northridge, Mass.) and Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.) and the No. 1 squad of Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) produced 8-5 wins to give Springfield a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Parrish and Ahlmeyer made quick work of their opponents, delivering 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6, while Freadman and Etter registered identical 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 for the Pride.  Kendall prevailed at No. 4 by a 6-2, 6-2 score, while Litchfield wrapped up the conference victory for the hosts with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 3.

This upcoming Saturday, Springfield will hit the road to face Babson for a 11 am contest.
