Box Score Norton, Mass. - October 26, 2019 - Led by a four-goal performance by Taylor Conley (Yarmouth Port, Mass.), the Springfield College field hockey team defeated Wheaton, 4-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield has now strung together four-straight conference wins to improve to 10-6, including a 4-3 conference record, while Wheaton slipped to 2-12, 0-7. For the game, Springfield held a 31-6 advantage in shots and took 14 of the game's 15 penalty corners.
After Wheaton opened up the game with a strike from Karin Dion off a feed from Ellie Williams just 2:09 into the contest, Springfield responded with Conley's first of the game at the 3:09 mark. The senior then cleaned up a rebound off an initial bid from Morgan Bronk (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) for the eventual game-winner in the eighth minute of the game before finishing off her first-quarter hat trick with another rebound goal at 11:59 as she poked home a loose ball following a strike from Taylor Low (Longmeadow, Mass.).
Springfield tacked on an insurance goal at the 51:21 mark when Low connected with Conley for the game's final strike. Elizabeth Morehouse (North Attleboro, Mass.) made one save in the win for the Pride.
Springfield's regular-season finale will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2 when it hosts MIT at 1 pm.
