Women's Basketball Eases Past Mount Holyoke, 75-17

South Hadley, Mass. - January 25, 2020 - The Springfield College women's basketball team came away with a 75-17 win over Mount Holyoke on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. 

Springfield jumps up to 12-6 on the season with a 3-0 record in NEWMAC play. Mount Holyoke slips to 0-3 in conference play and 1-17 overall on the year.

For the Pride, 11 players scored in the contest with Alex Goslin (South Windsor, Conn.) leading the way with a game-high 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go along with six assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Amanda Carr (West Haven, Conn.) and Madeline Fay (Braintree, Mass.) each pitched in 11 points. Springfield's bench produced 40 points on the day.

Annika Brooks put together a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Lyons. Ellie Hayward contributed five points. Mount Holyoke committed 26 turnovers and was outrebounded on the glass, 40-30, in the setback.

Springfield jumped out to a 12-2 lead with 4:55 remaining in the quarter after Hall stole away a pass and sent it ahead to Goslin for the layup, forcing a Lyons timeout. At the 4:40 mark, the Lyons received a three-pointer from Ellie Hayward off the Mikayla McEwen feed to make the score 12-5. From there, the Pride closed out the remainder of the quarter on a 11-2 run, capped off by Rudolph getting a transition basket to make the score 23-7.

In the second quarter, the Pride expanded their lead by holding the Lyons scoreless for the entire period. At 7:46, Megan Graves (Deerfield, Mass.) would connect on a three that would give Springfield a 30-7 lead. For the remainder of the half, the Pride would continue to attack the basket allowing for the score to reach 44-7 at the break. For the quarter, the Pride shot 64% on 9-of-14 shooting. 

At the 3:30 mark in the third quarter, Carr would corall an offensive rebound and finish in the lane to give the Pride a 57-9 lead. At 2:47, Gabriella Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) would knock down a jumper off the dish from Goslin to make the score 59-9, while a few minutes later, Rachel Vinton (Holden, Mass.) would knock down a pair of free throws to give Springfield the 64-9 lead after the third quarter. 

With 3:46 remaining in the game, Heaney-Secord would drill another jumper, giving the Pride their biggest lead of the afternoon at 75-13 en route to the victory.

 Springfield will now shift focus to their matchup with Clark University on Wednesday night at 5:30 pm.
