Box Score Springfield, Mass. - October 16, 2021 - The Springfield College field hockey team picked up its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory of the season as it toppled Clark University, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.
The Pride improved to 4-8 on the year, 1-4 in conference play, while the Cougars fell to 2-12, 0-6.
Despite Clark holding a 19-7 edge in shots for the game, Springfield made the most of its offensive opportunities in finding the back of the cage four times. Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) was outstanding in goal for Springfield, posting 11 saves in the victory.
With time ticking down in the first quarter, Maddy Dunne (Clifton Park, N.Y.) blistered a ball towards the cage that Gabby Inkel (South Windsor, Conn.) redirected in to give Springfield a 1-0 lead at the 14:57 mark. Springfield would continue to attack on the break throughout the second quarter, and with just under a minute left in the half their hard work paid off with a cross-field pass from Audrey Dolan (Westminster, Mass.) to Inkel, who scored her second of the game at 29:10.
Midway through the third quarter, Dunne fired home a rebound goal, and Springfield would score again in the fourth quarter when Inkel's pass found the stick of Emma McLaughlin (Norwalk, Conn.) for her first career goal to make it 4-0 in the 56th minute.
Springfield College will continue conference play on Tuesday night when it travels to Mount Holyoke for a 7 pm contest.
