Box Score Springfield, Mass. -October 6, 2021 - The Springfield College women's soccer program fell to WPI, 6-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.
Springfield drops to 6-5-1 and 4-2-1 in NEWMAC competition, meanwhile WPI goes to 8-5-1 on the season.
Amelia Harper (Taylorsville, Utah) and Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) split time in net and combined for seven saves in the setback.
The Engineers scored just 1:36 into the contest as Sophie Orrico dished to Ranya Basma for the chip in, later at 8:03, Grace Casey would advance the visitors' lead to 2-0. WPI would score again at 32nd and 34th-minute to push their first half lead to 4-0.
The Engineers added to their lead, at 53:50, Lilly Proulx connected with Caitlin Bonavita on the break to make the lead 5-0. The Pride had a chance to dip into the as Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) attacked the edge and got a great scoring opportunity, however the ball rang off the cross bar. A goal from Molly Vincent, in the 68th-minute, would push the lead to 6-0 for WPI and allow the Engineers to secure the win.
The Pride will travel to Wheaton College on Wednesday, October 20 at 3pm.
