Box Score Springfield, Mass. - October 30, 2021 - The Springfield College women's soccer program dropped their regular season finale to Emerson, 1-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.
The Pride close the regular season with 6-8-2 record and a 4-5-2 record in NEWMAC regular season play. Emerson finishes the regular season 10-5 and 8-3 in the conference.
Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) and Caitlin Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) combined for seven saves in their split time in net.
Through the 45 minutes of action, Emerson laid five shots on goal and nine total. With 6:50 remaining in the half, the Lions approached the box and looked for the opportunity to take the lead over the Pride as Gina Lukoski pumped in an attempt that Ryan battled down, then Lukoskie stayed with her miss and put a second shot up, but again Ryan was there for the save. Lauren Carlson connected with the crossbar on a third rebound header to leave the Lions scoreless on three-straight attempts courtesy of the phenomenal play of Ryan. In the waning seconds, Ryan secured another save that sent the game into halftime with a score of 0-0.
At the 49th-minute mark of the second half, Anna Swisher accepted a through ball from the left wing lofted a shot over Ryan into the right side, which elevated the visitors to a 1-0 lead. Springfield would look to get a last chance attempt off a corner kick from Maddy Bonavita (Wilbraham, Mass.), however the ball was cleared by the scrum of Emerson players in the box. The goal from Swisher proved to be the game-winner for the Lions.
Springfield will now shift its focus to the 2021 NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.
