Box Score Worcester, Mass. - October 15, 2022 - The Springfield College women's soccer program fell on the road to WPI, 2-1, in NEWMAC play on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield drops to 7-4-1 on the year with a 5-2 record in the conference standings. WPI improves to 5-6-2 and 1-3-2 in the NEWMAC.
Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) made nine saves in the setback with eight coming in the second half of play.
In the fifth-minute on the contest, Springfield went ahead 1-0 as Kaitlyn Suller (Oviedo, Fla.) dished out to Meredith Healy (Niantic, Mass.), who took the pass into space and sent in a goal to give the Pride the early lead. Following the goal, the two teams combined for just seven shots in the first half. The Engineers looked to even the game up before the half as Mia Gilmore posted a shot on goal in the 44th-minute, but Ryan scooped up the save to keep the Pride ahead 1-0.
WPI did earn its tying goal in the 49th-minute as Josie Kim lined up a free kick from inside the 25 yards to bring the score to 1-1. The Engineers tacked on another score at 59:55 when Lilly Proulx scored on near right side to put the hosts' up 2-1. Following the second goal, Ryan posted five-straight saves to give the Pride a chance to tie the game, yet the Pride only got off a pair of shots late in the game leading to the road loss for Springfield.
The Pride hosts Wheaton on Wednesday, October 19 at 7 pm.
