Springfield, Mass. - December 3, 2022- The Springfield College men's track and field program competed in the Springfield College Season Opener to start their 2022-23 campaign.
The meet was a non-scoring meet that featured Division II and III programs from around the region.
Jamie Cocca (Sand Lake, NY) threw for second place in the weight throw, with a heave of 15.24m. At the pole vault, Alex McKenney (Ossining, N.Y.) grabbed a first-place finish with a vault of 3.85m and Jamil Manu (Manchester, Conn.) jumped for first-place honors at the high jump, with a leap of 1.85m. Kevin Lee (Hyde Park, N.Y.) edged out the competition for a fifth-place finish over at the triple jump, as he would jump for 12.60m.
Colby Wilson (Tewksbury, Mass.) notched a first-place distance of 6.79m in the long jump, while in the shot put, Cocca added another second-place finish with a toss for 14.42m. Billy Albano (Longmeadow, Mass.) took fourth place in the same event, on a throw of 12.57m.
In the one mile, Rece Gobel (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) started his season off strong by running to first place, with a time of 4:30.36, followed by Kevin Ierardi (Hingham, Mass.) who finished with his time of 4:46.29. Brad Plamondon (Woonsocket, R.I.) ran his way to fourth place over at the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 9.40.
The Pride dominated the 60-meter dash, as they grabbed all top-five places, with Evan Weber (Purchase, N.Y.) and Seth Regan (Killingworth, Conn.) sprinting for first and second, with times of 6.93 and 7.03 respectively. The 400 dash was similar, as the Pride would fill the top three finishers, with first-place honors for Sam Polley (Feeding Hills, Mass.) with a time of 50.84.
First-year Sal Migliore (Beacon, N.Y.) achieved second place in the 600-meter run, with a time of 1:27.56. Czerwinski would round out the top five at this event, as he slotted in a time of 1:29.99. The Pride put together another 1-2-3 finish at the 1000-meter run, with Joe Wong (Salem, Mass.) crossing the line first with a time of 2:39.08.
John DeRosa (Shelton, Conn.) would race in the 3000-meter run, nabbing first place with a time of 9:00.27. A team of Czerwinski, Polley, Connor Joyce (Hampden, Mass.), and Luke Chastain (New Milford, Conn.) edged out the competition for first place in the 4x400-meter relay, registering a time of 3:31.13 to wrap up the day for the Pride.
Up next for the Pride will be the Tufts Invitational in Medford, Mass. on Saturday, January 14.
