Box Score Cambridge, Mass. - September 24, 2022 - Playing its second nationally-ranked opponent this week, the Springfield College field hockey program fell on the road to No. 14 MIT, 5-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Pride sit at 2-5 overall and 0-2 in league play. MIT is 6-2 with a 2-0 NEWMAC record.
Remy Niland (Marshfield, Mass.) put together a nine-save performance in the setback as MIT held a 16-3 advantage in shots for the game and 12 penalty corners. Paige Forester tallied a hat trick for the Engineers in the victory.
MIT got its first goal at 2:05 as Liberty Ladd tipped in a pass from Jordan Dattero put the Engineers ahead 1-0. Following the goal, Niland saved three-consecutive shots for the Pride as the Springfield defense held off the Engineers attack. The Pride's only attempt in the first quarter came with 15 seconds left in the frame as Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) put a shot on, but was walled up by the Engineers. In the second quarter, the Engineers separated themselves from the Pride as Forester scored three goals in a 5:35 span to give the hosts a 4-0 halftime lead.
Niland saved two of the Engineers three attempts in the third quarter, but MIT was able to add their fifth goal of the game on an unassisted marker by Marissa Liu just under four minutes into the stanza.
Springfield will play Endicott this upcoming Wednesday in a 7 pm non-conference tilt.
