Providence, R.I. - January 15, 2023 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics program opened up the 2023 season with an impressive tri-meet sweep of Rhode Island College and Bridgeport on Sunday afternoon.
The Pride registered 186.875 points to win the competition, followed by Bridgeport's total of 185.275 and RIC's team mark of 184.625. It proved to be a historic performance for the Pride, as it marked the highest score in a season-opening meet in program history.
On the vault, Springfield totaled a team-score of 46.800, as Annie Kiley (Taneytown, Md.) tied for second on the event with a 9.500. Jenna DiPalo (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) took fourth with a 9.450, while Rae Anna Schutz (Mays Landing, N.J.) finished inside the top 10 with a 9.300. Tori Sipes (Windham, N.H.) finished as the runner up on the uneven bars after she was credited with a 9.675, closley followed by Winter Osborne's (Fairbanks, Alaska) mark of 9.550 which put her in third. Kiley added the a 9.125 on the event to bolster the Pride's team score of 45.875.
Osborne would deliver a 9.625 on the balance beam for the Pride's top score on the event as she took third place. MacKenzie MacLeod (Kennebunk, Maine) and Devon Rosier (Hudson, N.H.) would also tie fo fifth place with a 9.550 as the Pride produced a 47.100 on the apparatus.
On the floor, Rosier and McLeod recorded scores of 9.650 to finish tied for second, while Schutz produced a 9.500 for a fifth-place finish. The Pride would finish the event with an event-best 47.100 team score.
Next Saturday, Springfield will head to Connecticut to take on SCSU at 2 pm.
