Springfield, Mass. - January 21, 2023 - The Springfield College men's track and field program hosted the Springfield College Massasoit Classic on Saturday afternoon in the Springfield College Field House in their second home event of the season.
Springfield hosted Westfield State, Lasell, and American International in what would be a non-scoring meet.
Jamil Manu (Manchester, Conn.) would start the Pride out to a hot start, as he would leap for first place at the high jump, grabbing first place with a jump of 1.88m. At the pole vault, Alex McKenney (Ossining, N.Y.) also achieved a first-place finish as he hit the 4.00m on his vault. Colby Wilson (Tewksbury, Mass.) continued his impressive start to the year in the long jump, finishing in first place once again with a jump of 6.74m.
At the weight throw, Jamie Cocca (Sand Lake, N.Y.) nabbed a second-place finish, where he tossed a 16.35m throw. Cocca would also put in another second-place performance at the shot put, where he would heave a throw for 14.14m. Billy Albano (Longmeadow, Mass.) also threw for a top-three fiinsh with a toss of 13.27m. David Cataloni (Attleboro, Mass.) jumped for a third-place finish at the triple jump, as he lept for a distance of 12.78m.
In the one-mile run, Rece Gobel (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) returned to competition and posted a 4:26.24, which earned him third place on the day. The Pride would take two out of the top four spots at the 60m hurdles, with Cataloni running to second place with a time of 8.68 seconds, with Brad Plamondon (Woonsocket, R.I.) coming in right behind him in fourth place, sprinting for a time of 9.31. At the 60m dash, Michael Scott (Shoreview, Minn.) grabbed the highest place for the Pride, as he dashed to a second-place finish with a time of 7 seconds.
Jeremiah Singer (Barnstable, Mass.) put in a solid showing for the Pride at the 1000m run, where he captured fourth as he crossed the line with a time of 2:50.81. Thomas Czerwinski (Suffern, N.Y.) topped the results at the 400m dash, as he clocked in with a time of 51.70, earning him first-place honors. The 800m run was another top five finish for the Pride, as Joe Wong (Salem, Mass.) ran for third place, racing for a time of 1:57.50. Czerwinski also achieved another high finish, as he captured second place at the 200m run, dashing for a time of 23.19.
In the 3000m run, Ryan Caldwell (Danbury, Conn) finished the highest for the Pride, as he ran for a second-place finish with a time of 9:55.10. For the 4x400m relay, a team of Anik Dole (Dubai, UAE), Seth Regan (Killingworth, Conn.), Scott, and Evan Weber (Purchase, N.Y.) wrapped up a successful day by grabbing first-place with their time of 3:32.81.
The Pride will compete next at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University on Saturday, January 28.
