Springfield, Mass. – October 25, 2023 – The Springfield College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Babson College and picked up a point in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) standings tonight on Brock-Affleck Field.

Springfield now sits at 8-4-4 overall and at 6-2-2- in NEWMAC play with 20 points, while Babson improved to 9-5-3 and 7-1-2 in the league standings with 23 points. Both Springfield and Babson have secured a top-four seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament and will both host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, October 31. Final seeding will be determined following the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

Just 1:17 into the contest, on the second shot of the game, sophomore Kayla McGrath (North Adams, Mass.) scored the first goal for Springfield as she booted the ball into upper left corner of the net from the top of the box. McGrath's goal was her third consecutive tally for Springfield as she potted both goals against Wellesley College on Saturday. It also brought McGrath's season total to eight, which not only leads Springfield, but is third most in the NEWMAC this fall.

The score remained the same until there was less than ten minutes to play in the game. Natalie Knauf crossed the ball into the box from the near side and it deflected off of Cassie Lawson and into the goal for the equalizer.

In the tightly contested matchup between the two squads, both Babson and Springfield took 17 shots and five corner kicks. Springfield keeper Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.), the defending NEWMAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, made four saves for the Pride as she moved to 6-4-4 in net.

Springfield will play its regular season finale on Saturday, October 28 at Smith College beginning at 1:00 pm.
