Box Score Springfield, Mass. – October 28, 2023 – Fueled by three goals from Kaitlin Bardellini (Northfield, N.H.), the Springfield College field hockey team wrapped up the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Clark on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Stagg Field.
The Pride has now strung together four-straight victories to even its record to 9-9 on the year, including 4-5 against conference foes. The loss dropped Clark to 5-12, 1-8.
Springfield held a 21-12 advantage in shots on the day, while the Cougars held a slight 9-8 edge in penalty corners. Remy Niland (Marshfield, Mass.) was credited with eight stops in the victory for Springfield.
Bardellini opened up the scoring at the 22:02 mark when she snagged a deflected centering pass off the stick of a Clark defender and slotted home the game's first goal. She would then tack on what would prove to be the game-winning goal less than three minutes later as she made the most of a terrific pass from Ava Coppola (Southington, Conn.) to double up the Pride's advantage heading into the half.
Following a scoreless third quarter in which Springfield had a 10-2 advantage in shots, Clark was able to trim the hosts lead in half with an unassisted strike by Greer McCarty in the 52nd minute. However, Bardellini sealed the victory as she potted her team-leading 16th goal of season, finishing off an assist from Emma McLaughlin (Norwalk, Conn.), at the 55:47 mark.
