Box Score Northampton, Mass. – October 28, 2023 – The Springfield College women's soccer team and Smith College played to a 1-1 draw in the regular season for both squads in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action this afternoon in Northampton.
With the draw, Springfield moved to 8-4-5 overall and to 6-2-3 in the NEWMAC standings with 21 points, while Smith saw its record push to 6-6-4 and 4-4-3.
Springfield has secured the fourth seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship Tournament and will host fifth seeded Smith College in a rematch of today's game in a quarterfinal contest on Brock-Affleck Field at a time to be determined.
The Pride tallied the game's first goal in the 31st minute when senior Carolyn Ives (Farmington Conn.) passed the ball to classmate Sonia Dugger (Belchertown, Mass.), who buried her first goal of the season and the first goal of her collegiate career.
Smith found the equalizer in the 59th minute when Hannah Hutton finished a pass from Sofia Romero. The match would stay even at one as both squads capped their regular seasons with a draw.
Smith held a 10-3 advantage in shots, while Springfield held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) made four saves in the effort for Springfield this afternoon.
