Box Score Cambridge, Mass. – October 7, 2023 – The Springfield College women's soccer team fell to No. 14 nationally-ranked MIT, 4-1, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Roberts Field.
MIT improved to 9-1-1 and remained unbeaten in conference play (5-0-0), while Springfield dropped to 6-3-2 and to 4-1-0 in league games.
MIT scored its first two goals just 3:58 apart in the 19th and 23rd minutes as Meagan Rowlett and Natalie Barnouw found the back of the net for the Engineers. Before the half was over, MIT scored twice more, this time in a span of just over four minutes at the 40:01 and 44:24 markers. Katherine Ruan scored off a feed from Arianna Doss and Lauren Davis picked up her third point of the match finishing a header off a corner kick.
The host Engineers held Springfield without a goal until the 79th minute, when Kaitlyn Suller (Oviedo, Fla.) knocked in her second goal of the season from a corner kick by Julianna DaCosta (Rehoboth, Mass.). DaCosta notched her first collegiate assist in tonight's setback.
Springfield keeper Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) and Mallory Forgatch (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) split time in net for the Pride combining for six saves in the effort. Forgatch's four saves marked a new career-high for the first-year keeper.
The Pride remain on the road for its next NEWMAC matchup as Springfield will visit Mount Holyoke College on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:00 pm.
