Bowdoin Defeats Women's Basketball, 73-46

Brunswick, Maine - November 11, 2023 - The Springfield College women's basketball team fell to Bowdoin College by a 73-46 final in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon in Morrell Gymnasium.

Springfield evened its record out a 1-1 on the year, while Bowdoin, who played its season opener this afternoon is now 1-0.

Junior Angela Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) led Springfield with 21 points to go along with nine boards, three assists and a steal, while classmate Lindsey Laughlan (Ellington, Conn.) tallied five points for the Pride. Bowdoin was guided by Callie Godfrey, who posted 17 points and seven rebounds as well as Sydney Jones, who notched 15 points, four rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Bowdoin raced out to a 13-3 advantage over the opening 4:28 of the game and never looked back as the Polar Bears led 22-8 after the first. Springfield's eight points in the opening stanza came from Czeremcha (4), Laughlan (2) and Amanda Leary (Westbury, Conn.) (2). The hosts built their lead to as many as 23 at 45-22 prior to the halftime break following a three point bucket by Megan Tan.

Springfield outscored Bowdoin by a 14-8 edge in the final quarter thanks to nine more points from Czeremcha and four from Kassidy Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) off the bench, but the host Polar Bears came away with the 73-46 win in their home opener.

Springfield will return home for a non-conference matchup with Endicott College on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:00 pm in Blake Arena.
