Box Score Middlebury, Vt. – November 18, 2023 – Springfield College women's basketball junior Angela Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) produced a 17 point, 13 rebound double double to guide the Pride to a 56-46 win over Middlebury College on the second day of the Middlebury Invitational.
Springfield ran its winning streak to three and is now 4-1 on the season, while the host Panthers dropped to 1-3 this year.
In addition to Czeremcha's double double, Rachel Vinton (Rutland, Mass.) contributed ten points, eight boards and four assists and Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) tallied seven points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Springfield and Middlebury played a tight opening quarter before back-to-back three point buckets by Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) and Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) made it an 18-11 game through ten minutes of play. The Pride built their lead to as many as 11 in the second stanza after a layup from Czeremcha which forced the Panthers to burn a timeout. Middlebury came out of the timeout with a 9-0 run to once again make it a one possession game, but a jumper from Lindsey Laughlan (Ellington, Conn.) and two made free throws from Vinton made it a 26-22 game at the break.
Middlebury took a 30-26 with eight straight points to open the third, but Springfield answered with an 8-1 run and took a 34-31 lead into the final quarter. A trey by Riley Robinson (Adams, Mass.) and a pair of free throws by Vinton gave Springfield the lead it would need to win the game as the Pride held a 39-31 advantage with 8:20 left in the game. Ten of Springfield's final 15 points of the game, which came over the final 4:08, came from the charity stripe as the Pride went 10-for-12 at the line. Czeremcha added a layup and Leary buried a shot from behind the arc for the 56-41 final.
Springfield will head to Williams College for another matchup with a NESCAC foe on Tuesday, November 21 at 5:00 pm.
