Babson Park, Mass. – November 2, 2023 – The fifth-seeded Springfield College field hockey team fell to top-seeded and No. 2 nationally-ranked Babson College, 9-0, in the semifinal round of the 2023 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament tonight on MacDowell Field.

Springfield, which made its first semifinal appearance since 2019, closes its season with an overall record of 10-10, while Babson improves to 19-1 and moves on to the championship final and will host second-seeded MIT on Saturday afternoon to compete for the league's automatic berth to the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

The nationally-ranked Beavers scored twice in the first quarter on strikes by Andrea Marguerite and Laney Reed before Sinead Walsh added a third goal for Babson prior to the break. Babson concluded the game with three tallies in the third and three in the fourth en route to the 9-0 win.

Walsh led all scorers with three goals for her second hat trick of the season, while Brienne McGrath registered a pair of fourth quarter goals for Babson.

Springfield keeper Remy Niland (Marshfield, Mass.) registered a season-high 18 saves and was just one shy of tying her career-high of 19 which she set a season ago at Trinity (Conn.). Babson held a 36-1 margin in shots and a 24-1 advantage in penalty corners. Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) took Springfield's lone shot on target of the night.

The Pride conclude the season with ten victories, the most Springfield has had since the 2019 campaign.
