Springfield, Mass. – November 4, 2023 – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team was defeated by No. 9 nationally-ranked MIT by a final score of 230-67 on Saturday afternoon inside Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Springfield junior Kay Shen (Hong Kong) had a standout meet as she individually placed first in the 50-free in 24.31 and fourth in the 100-fly in 1:02.68 in between placing second alongside Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.), Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) and Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.) in the 400-free relay in 3:39.91 and third alongside Emma Baumhauer (Fairport, N.Y.), Lamb and Kelaher in the 200-medley relay in 1:50.67.
Kelaher also individually earned a second place finish in the 100-free in 55.57 and was just ahead of Lamb, who placed third in the event in 55.89. Lamb also tallied a runner-up finish in the 100-breast with a mark of 1:07.62.
Springfield had three other third place finishes as Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.) finished the 1000-free in 11:28.00, Carolyn Blenk (New Rochelle, N.Y.) touched the wall in the 200-free in 2:14.72 and Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) clocked a 5:33.58 in the 500-free.
In the diving well, Megan Crawford (Agawam, Mass.) finished fourth on the 3-meter board with a mark of 240.67 points and fifth on the 1-meter board with 227.41 points.
Springfield will host Wheaton College and Keene State College in a double dual meet on Saturday, November 11 at 12:00 pm.
