Springfield, Mass. - February 18, 2023 - The Springfield College men's track and field took part in another home event this season, at the Springfield College Triangle Classic on Saturday afternoon.
To start the day, the Pride placed well at the 3000m run, as John DeRosa (Shelton, Conn.) grabbed a sixth-place finish crossing the line with a time of 8:49.75, followed right behind by Christopher Vayda (Southampton. Mass.) at the 8:50.37 mark. David Cataloni (Attleboro, Mass.) achieved first-place honors at the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.50 seconds.
The Pride were dominant in the 60 meters as Evan Weber (Purchase, N.Y.) nabbed the highest placing for the Pride, as he came across the line in second place with a time of 6.99. Thomas Czerwinski (Suffern, N.Y.) sprinted towards a top-three finish over at the 400 meters, as he achieved third place clocking in at 50.96.
At the 600, Joe Wong (Salem, Mass.) paced himself to first-place honors, as he came in with a time of 1:22.15, and Rece Gobel (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) wasn't far behind and grabbed second place crossing the finish line at 1:23.05. Aidan Harmer (Hawthorne, N.J.) ran to another first place for Springfield at the 1000m, as he notched a time of 2:36.35.
Seth Regan (Killingworth, Conn.) kept the first-place finishes coming, as he captured first at the 200m as he sprinted to a time of 22.61 seconds. Ricky Perruzzi (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) nabbed the highest result for the Pride at the 5000m, finishing with a pace of 16:33.58. The Pride finished off their day on the track with the 4x400m relay, where a team of Gobel, Harmer, Wong, and Adam Mula (West Townsend, Mass.) all combined for a time of 3:34.72, earning second place.
Over at the field events, Colby Wilson (Tewksbury, Mass.) registered a first-place distance of 6.88m. Jamie Cocca (Sand Lake, N.Y.) also put in another strong performance at the weight throw, as he would heave a throw for 15.71m, earning a third-place finish as a result and would also throw the shot put and earn second place from a toss of 14.24m.
Kevin Lee (Hyde Park, N.Y. ) recorded a first place distance at the triple jump, as he would reach the 13.20m mark. Alex McKenney (Ossining, N.Y.) would reach a height of 4.15m in the pole vault, earning him fourth. The Pride finished up their successful day with Daniel McGlashan (Haverhill, Mass.) picking up second place at the high jump, going over the bar at the 1.85m mark.
Members of the Pride will compete next weekend in the New England Division III Championships.
