Women's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season With Win Over Mount Holyoke

Springfield, Mass. - February 18, 2023 - The Springfield College women's basketball closed out the regular season on Saturday with a 78-26 victory over Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. 

Springfield, which appeared in this week's NCAA Division III Regional Rankings, in now 17-8, 7-3 against conference foes, while the Lyons season came to a close with a 2-23, 0-10 mark.  The Pride will now await to see who it will play in the upcoming conference tournament.

Sam Hourihan (Bridgewater, Mass.) totaled 14 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists, while Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) came off the bench to produce a 13-point, 10-rebound effort and Angela Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) added a double double of her own with 10 points and 10 rebounds.   Rachel Vinton (Rutland, Mass.) chipped in 13 points and four assists for Springfield, which shot 31-for-70 (44%) and owned a 57-28 advantage on the glass. 

Holding a 10-4 lead with just over three minutes left in the first half, Springfield used a 9-0 burst to close out the frame to seize control at 19-4 following a jumper by Lindsey Laughlan (Ellington, Conn.) inside 30 seconds to play. 

Springfield continued to cruise in the second quarter as it outscored the visitors by a 22-4 margin.  Leary was all over the court with 10 points and seven rebounds in the stanza to help Springfield to a 41-8 halftime cushion. 

In the third, Hourihan converted a three-point play at 3:17 to make it a 54-10 lead and Springfield would earn its largest lead, 76-21, on an inside bucket by Xingrui Liu (Guangxi, China) in the waning minutes of the contest.
