Ithaca, N.Y. - March 5, 2023 - Competing for the final time this regular season, the Springfield College women's gymnastics team was upended by Ithaca, 189.650-187.600, on Sunday afternoon.
Springfield's best team score of the day came on the floor as it posted a 48.475, led by Christina Wygonik's (Wading River, N.Y.) winning mark of 9.800. Maya Belog (Sturbridge, Mass.) took third in the event with a 9.725, while the duo of MacKenzie MacLeod (Kennebunk, Maine) and Devon Rosier (Hudson, N.H.) tied for fifth after each posting 9.700's.
The Pride also had a strong team effort on the vault with a 47.125. Julia Reer (Cedar Grove, N.J.) and Stacy Taylor (Biddeford, Maine) each scored 9.500's to tie for third place, while Belog, Sage Kaplan (Auburn, Mass.), and Jenna DiPalo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) each registered 9.355's.
Belog would earn runner-up honors on the beam with a 9.700 and Winter Osborne (Fairbanks, Alaska) scored a 9.575 en route to fourth place. Tori Sipes (Windham, N.H.) added a 9.225 to round out the top three scorers on the apparatus for the visitors. On the uneven bars, Osborne was credited with a 9.450 to take third, Ayako Maeda (Yokohama, Japan) was close behind in fourth place after earning a 9.300, and Wygonik chipped in a 9.025.
Next Saturday, Springfield will look to qualify for a spot in the national meet as it competes in Pennsylvania in the NCGA East Regional Championships.
