New London, Conn. – April 15, 2023 - The Springfield College men's track and field team dominated the competition at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College as the Pride finished in first place of 20 teams with 152 points.
Springfield's 4x100-meter relay team of Seth Regan (Killingworth, Conn.), Michael Scott (Shoreview, Minn.), Evan Weber (Purchase, N.Y.), and Anthony Penta (Southington, Conn.) cruised to first place victory with a time of 41.41, which currently ranks atop the NEWMAC and 19th in Division III men's track and field this season.
Regan, Scott, and Weber swept the top three spots in the 100-meter dash with times of 10.78-seconds, 10.80-seconds and 10.84-seconds, respectively. Regan and Scott now rank first and second with the fastest times in the conference this season. Regan also went on to win the 200-meter dash in 22.04-seconds.
Springfield continued its dominance in the 400-meter dash with four student-athletes finishing top six. Luke Chastain (New Milford, Conn.) crossed the finish line second with a time of 50.81, while Joe Wong (Salem, Mass.) took fourth in 51.03-seconds, Thomas Czerwinski (Suffern, N.Y.) took fifth in 51.23-seconds and Rece Gobel (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) finished sixth in 51.30-seconds.
Gobel and Wong produced top five finishes in the 800-meter run as Gobel ran the second fastest time in the NEWMAC with his runner-up finish in 1:54.77, while Wong took fourth in 1:55.86.
Christopher Vayda (Southampton, Mass.) finished the 10000-meter race in 31:13.05 enough for fifth place and the fourth fastest time in the NEWMAC, while Kevin Lee (Hyde Park, N.Y.) posted the second fastest time in the league in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.-74-seconds.
Jamil Manu (Manchester, Conn.) registered the best finish for Springfield today in the high jump as he placed second with a best leap of 1.90-meters (6 feet, 2.75 inches), which ranks second in the NEWMAC, while Travis Brown (Hartford, Conn.) took third in the javelin throw with a best toss of 52.79-meters (173 feet, 2 inches).
Springfield will return to action next weekend at the Trinity College Invitational in Hartford, Connecticut.
