Springfield, Mass. – May 6, 2023 – Highlighted by a regional title in the 4x100 relay, the Springfield College men's track and field team took eighth at the New England Division III Championships over the weekend.
Concluding the three-day event with 36 points, Springfield was the second-highest finishing team from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), as in-conference foe MIT was the title with 143 points.
Michael Scott (Shoreview, Minn.), Seth Regan (Killingworth, Conn.), Evan Weber (Purchase, N.Y.) and Anthony Penta (Southington, Conn.) earned first-place honors in the 4x100 relay in 41.67 for the regional championship, while Weber and Penta each finished in the top four of the 100 meters as Weber posted a 10.57 and Penta posted a 10.64. Regan also collected all-region honors in the 200 with a fourth-place time of 21.42, followed by Thomas Czerwinski's (Suffern, N.Y.) time of 21.67 that was good enough for seventh.
Springfield's 4x800 team of Sean McDaniel (West Hartford, Conn.), Aidan Harmer (Hawthorne, N.J.), Adam Mula (West Townsend, Mass.), and Bradyn Cote (South Hadley, Mass.) also collected All-New England recognition with a fifth-place time of 8:00.35.
In the 400, Luke Chastain (New Milford, Conn.) crossed in 50.01 and Kevin Lee (Hyde Park, N.Y.) wrapped up the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.92. Rece Gobel (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) posted a 1:55.09 in the 800 and Harmer turned in a 4:01.78 in the 1,500.
Christopher Vayda (Southampton, Mass.) delivered a 15:43.09 in the 5000, while in the high jump Jamil Manu (Manchester, Conn.) cleared 1.86 meters and David Cataloni (Attleboro, Mass.) added a distance of 12.94m in the triple jump. The Pride's 4x400 relay team also raced on the afternoon and took ninth as Lee, Czerwinski, Gobel, and Chastain recorded a 3:26.56.
