Field Hockey Tripped Up By No. 14 Trinity, 5-0

Hartford, Conn. – September 20, 2023 – The Springfield College field hockey team was defeated by nationally-ranked No. 14 Trinity College (Conn.) by a 5-0 final on Wednesday evening at Sheppard Field.

With tonight's result, Trinity improved to 5-1, while Springfield fell to 3-4 this season.

Trinity's offense was powered by a hat trick from Katrina Winfield in the 5-0 final. As a team, the Bantams held a 40-3 advantage in shots and a 16-1 margin in penalty corners. Izzy Deveney got the scoring started for Trinity just 4:19 into the contest with an unassisted strike before Winfield gave the hosts a 2-0 edge three minutes later.

Winfield scored one in the second and once in the fourth, while Tatum Stickey sandwiched her goal in between Winfield's in the third quarter.

Springfield keeper Neilee Hess (Franklin, Mass.) made a career-high 21 saves and now has 38 stops over the past 120 minutes in the cage for the Pride.

Springfield will host another nationally-ranked opponent in No. 23 MIT on Saturday, September 23 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tilt on Stagg Field beginning at 12:00 pm.
