Box Score Norton, Mass. – September 30, 2023 – A goal midway through the second half by sophomore midfielder Natalia Mottura (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was the difference as the Springfield College women's soccer team remained unbeaten in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with today's 1-0 win at Wheaton College.
Springfield improved to 5-2-2 overall and to 3-0-0 in NEWMAC play, while Wheaton dropped to 3-6-1, 1-3-0.
As a team, the Pride held a 13-7 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Springfield keeper Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) made a pair of saves to move to 3-2-2 on the year with her third clean sheet of the season.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes of play, Springfield broke the scoreless tie in the 60th minute. Senior Maddie Daigneault (Watertown, Conn.) lined up for a free kick from the close sideline and drilled it far into the box to the feet of Mottura, who buried the first goal of her collegiate career. Daigneault registered also registered her first collegiate point with the assist in the victory.
Springfield will host Coast Guard on Wednesday, October 4 at 7:00 pm for another conference matchup on Brock-Affleck Field.
